I love music! It can be very powerful. It gives us a boost and takes us away to a happy place. Basically it helps get the job done.
Whenever I need motivation to get something done like clean out a closet or even just to exercise I put on some music. I skip the slow ones and head to the upbeat songs I love.
My absolute favourite song to get me motivated is ‘The Middle’ by Jimmy Eat World. Usually I’m pretty motivated but when I put music on I am so much more efficient! Not sure if you ever noticed when you’re shopping and there is slow music playing you seem to wonder around in la la land and forget what you went in there for. But when they are playing fast upbeat music you race around the shop and get exactly what you need.
Music puts you in the right frame of mind. Considered as a natural antidepressant, music can give you the euphoric high that antidepressant medications can bring. It engages the body’s sympathetic nervous system and readies the body for action whenever we face a challenge in our environment. So choose music that is upbeat otherwise you’ll be fast asleep instead of getting on with things!
If you have an Ipod try to pick an arrangement of songs and download them onto that device in a “motivational” folder so that when you are feeling like you need some get-up-and-go you can play that list of songs to your heart’s content!
